Bloody Typical!!

27 07 2005
All the tech news sites are indicating that Beta 1 of Windows Vista is being released to testers on the 27th July. That being today, the day that I fly out to the UK for a week and a bit and will be without access to a computer! Bugger!!

I won’t have a chance to get the build until I come back unless I can get my wife to start grappling with Microsoft’s File Transfer Manager :)

The worst Pizza ever…

26 07 2005

Just come back from La Porchetta in Narre Warren after experiencing the worst pizza I have ever had. Urrghh. I think the leather on my shoes would taste better… hang on.. let’s find out..

Ooh it does.

Monday’s Bullet Point catchup….

25 07 2005
So this weekend I managed to do a fair few things, including:
  • Dug a grave, for a goat, in the pitch black
  • Managed to break off the ‘C’ key on my laptop from extreme typing
  • Increased my hate of Rob and Amber on the Amazing Race Series 7 that I am starting to watch
  • Packed for the UK
  • Decided that the new Chocolate and Raisin swirl bread is just too damn nice to wait for breakfast
  • Learnt several cool things about Sharepoint
  • Tried out Microsoft’s Virtual Earth, the coverage of Australia is not as good as Google’s, so Google stays my favourite (for the time being)
  • Decided I like the name Microsoft Vista.. Can’t wait for the beta to come out in the next week or so. Got to get the test PC up and running again
  • Aching thanks to the Goat Grave
  • Managed to avoid Geelong’s loss on the telly

Longhorn is Windows Vista : Official

22 07 2005

Microsoft just released a press release video confirming that the next generation operating system previously known as will be officially known as .

Cool. I like the name… sounds futuristic..

Update: Just noticed that Microsoft.com now has a Windows Vista page at http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/default.mspx

No more Da Vinci code…

22 07 2005
It seems that the Da Vinci code has been replaced as the defacto read on Melbournes public transport network, this morning I counted four different people reading the new Harry Potter book. Now I am pleased to say that I have never read one of these books, nor seen the films, nor do I have any intention of doing so.

On a lighter note, I am off to the UK next Wednesday for a couple of days to attend my kid sisters wedding. At the moment I am loading up my ipod with good stuff to listen to on the journey over as the airline website seems to indicate that I have seen most of the films being shown on the flight :(

I am really looking forward to catching up with my family, many of which I haven’t seen since I left to go on holiday in Australia back in September 1999. Unfortunately it is only a quick visit, I think I am in the UK for a total of 6 days then I fly back. Rach doesn’t really fly that well and usually takes a couple of days to get over it, so I am going on my own. The big plus is that I get to have English Bacon, Marks and Spencer Pasta Salad, Proper Coleslaw, English Choccy, Eccles cakes, Chelsea Buns and all the other fine english fair.. the downside is that I will have to have two seats to come in!!

Spooks to close to real life

21 07 2005
The Age is linking to this story, about how the upcoming series 4 of Spooks has a storyline that mirrors the recent bomb blasts in London.

Whilst on the subject of spooks, remember it’s back on ABC in Australia on Friday at 9:30. This is a must watch. Series 3 probably is the best of the lot so far and clears up the terrific cliff hanger of series 2 with Tom.

Google Moon

21 07 2005
Hot on the heels of Google Earth, it seems Google have released Google Moon to celebrate the moon landings.

Pretty cool. Try zooming to the maximum for a suprise..

Kasabian

18 07 2005

On the recommendation of my mum, I got hold of the self titled album by Kasabian. Mum has introduced me to many cool bands in the past, but mainly from her childhood, including The Who and the Rolling Stones.

The Kasabian recommendation came on the back of hearing them at this years Glastonbury festival which is held just down the road from where my parents live.

The album is a mix of rock and instrumentals with a dance undercurrent. I love it. Go buy this album now.

Spooks Series 3 on the ABC

18 07 2005

My wonderful wife noticed that the ABC are showing the third and probably the best series of BBC’s Spooks starting this Friday evening at 9:30pm.

ANZ offering free McAfee Virus and Firewall Software for a year

17 07 2005

It’s good to see that ANZ are taking internet security seriously. Whilst I was doing my banking saw a link for free Virus and Firewall protection from McAfee. I use this already, so might have to cancel my subscription and give the free ANZ version a whirl.. Posted by Picasa
